KEVORK MOURAD
Syria | Artist
Multidisciplinary Syrian-Armenian artist Kevork Mourad brings art, music, and current events together in works exploring Middle Eastern politics and history, the plight of political refugees, and religious tolerance. Originally trained as a printmaker, today Mourad creates dynamic sculptures, installations, and collaborative performances with choreographers, composers, and writers. Seeing Through Babel (2019), produced in situ at Toronto’s Aga Khan Museum, reimagines the biblical Tower of Babel in acrylic on Egyptian cotton. The monumental artwork was conceived as a contemporary monument promoting diversity. Mourad has also collaborated with classical musicians and orchestras like Yo-Yo Ma, Kim Kashkashian, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. He has staged performances at institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, and Carnegie Hall.
