Description

SUSANA ROSSELLO
Peru | Artist

She graduated from the School of Plastic Arts -now the Faculty of Art- of the Catholic University of Lima in the specialty of sculpture under the direction of Anna Maccagno, she then followed postgraduate studies in Italy with a scholarship from the Italo-Latin American Institute of Rome . She has served as a teacher at the aforementioned Faculty of Art.

She has had individual and collective exhibitions in Peru and Italy. Susana has her work integrated into architecture such as the Seat of the image of the Virgen del Carmen in Santiago de Chile, the facade of the Interbanc Building and the main altar of the Parish of San Francisco de Borja in Lima.

She works on large-scale works that contribute to the integration of sculpture with architecture. In her career, she has made several monumental pieces for public spaces, as well as sculptures for collections.

Her last individual exhibition was held at the Forum Gallery in 2015 where she presented large-format works in wood.

“My job consists of letting the visions of the unconscious surface, trying to make them have the same naturalness with which we dream. When I have an image as a starting point, I try through reason to emphasize the composition so that it is the one that ultimately speaks or gives a message.”

Susana Roselló, a sculptor with solid training and fine sensitivity, defines sculpture as the relationship between the dimensions of the elements, volume and space. The variants that appear depend on the rhythm created by the alternative of these elements.

Roselló works in marble, bronze, iron and wood with ease and skill, managing to coordinate a diversity of material forms to create a unit. In her sculptures, each element is integrated into a volume that goes beyond materiality, and together with the rationality of geometric shapes, they become opposition and complement, as a means to reveal spiritual ideas. In addition, she uses the colors of the same materials in an apparently spontaneous way, since the color of each element communicates with its texture and materiality with the whole. Susana Roselló humanizes the geometric and sensitizes our perception. With her sculptures, she intends to transmit peace and harmony, which implies artistically fulfilling a therapeutic function in our society. And so she makes pieces that start from the internal world, so that in the beauty of her form, the spirit can be happy.

Almost all of her sculptures are abstract and in them Susana Roselló releases her visionary fantasy, rich in symbols, which show her creative activity. The circle and the cross are recurring elements in her work, while when she uses wood, she adds them to create volumes, when he uses the stone, he removes them, cleaning up the form and simplifying it.
